COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Narcotic officers with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office and the SBI spent Monday high above the clouds, looking for people who grow pot.

Sheriff Chris Batten said they had five locations they were targeting for growing marijuana. One person was arrested.

Deputies arrested Ricky Smith from Evergreen who they said was growing nine pot plants.

Investigators said they try to fly around twice during the summer looking for marijuana that was planted. The sheriff said people are getting smarter and are growing plants in green houses and under shelters.
