South Columbus High student wins district’s Poetry Out Loud contest

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students from across Columbus County participated in the district’s Poetry Out Loud contest recently.

Contestants recited two memorized poems and were judged on presence, voice and articulation, evidence of understanding and level of difficulty, according to Columbus County Schools.

Faith Smith, of South Columbus High, reportedly won the contest and Faith Mercado, of East Columbus High, received runner up. Smith moves on to the state competition in Greensboro.
