DSS director to make less than pay study recommendation | Business

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Columbus County voted Tuesday night to pay the county’s new DSS Director an annual salary of $57,000.

Some members of the DSS board are unhappy with the amount of money commissioners decided to pay Algernon McKenzie. They say a pay study recommended the DSS Director make $60,000.

DSS Board members also said commissioners told them before they started interviewing candidates the director would make $75,000. Commissioners say that number is based on experience and wasn’t a set amount.

McKenzie started as director of the department Tuesday. He had already been working there as a supervisor.
