Low SC gas prices put Fair Bluff gas station out of business | Business

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - After being open for 12 years, Lovett Auto Plaza, the only gas station in Fair Bluff town limits, closed last week.

T.G. Lovett, who owned the business, says that they lost too many customers to South Carolina.

Fair Bluff sits on the NC/SC state line, and Lovett says that people in Fair Bluff would drive an extra seven miles to a SC gas station, where gas is at least 20 cents cheaper.

Lovett had to lay off five employees.

His gas station also had a restaurant inside, which was one of the few places to eat in town.

Lovett has opened a small drive-through convenience store in Fair Bluff called Circle Up.

He's hoping state lawmakers in NC will think about towns near SC and work to get gas taxes lowered.
