COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Kenneth Waddell came out on top Tuesday, winning the Primary elections for a seat in the NC House of Representative District 46.
Waddell beat Al Leonard 55 percent to 45 percent, or about 1,200 votes.
Following his win, Waddell says he is ready for the November race. He says that he knew the race would be tight in Bladen, Robeson, and Columbus counties, but said Wednesday that it ended up being too close for comfort.
He has been on Chadbourn City Council since 1987 and was mayor seven of those years.
Waddell ran against Dewy Hill back in 2010 for the then US House of Representative District 20 seat, but lost by 600 votes.
Waddell is a Fair Bluff native and is a retired agriculture teacher.
Waddell will face Gatson Pridgen, of Robeson County, in the General Election in November. Pridgen ran unopposed in the Primaries. He currently holds the District 46 seat.
