Fayetteville Symphony to perform in Columbus Co.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Southeastern Community College’s Bowers Auditorium soon, according to the college’s website.

The event will take place Dec. 9 at 4 p.m., where a mix of music from West Side Story and Les Miserables will be performed, along with Christmas favorites.

Afterschool program offers free tutoring

TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking for a way that your child can brush up on a particular school subject, you might want to look into an afterschool tutoring program being offered at Family Champions Family Resource Center in Tabor City, according to the Tabor-Loris Tribune.

The program is free, and is open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday through Thursday. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade can participate.

Columbus Career and College Academy classes take home ribbons for Yam Festival Cook-Off

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Two Intro to Culinary classes at Columbus Career and College Academy recently won six first-place ribbons in the youth category of the Yam Festival Cook-Off, according to the Columbus County Schools website.

The classes spent the a few weeks trying out their recipes before they competed. In addition to the first-place ribbons, they also earned one third-place ribbon in the adult category.

Columbus Career and College Academy is located in Fair Bluff.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – High school students in Columbus County joined forces last week to put on a special performance.

The third annual Choral Festival was held at East Columbus High School Thursday night.

Stallions hold on to lead, will host Friday

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – South Columbus won 6 of 7 to earn a share of the Waccamaw title, and Friday night the Stallions opened their playoff run against Clinton.

The Stallions took the lead in the first quarter putting up 8 on the scoreboard. They extended their lead in the second quarter 16-6.

South Columbus continued to control the scoreboard and won the game 31-20.

Friday, the Stallions will host South Granville.

South Columbus Stallions looking for third straight win Friday night

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The South Columbus Stallions football team is looking for their third straight win Friday night against Clinton High.

It will be the first game in the 3A state playoffs.

South Columbus has won six out of its seven last games, and the last time the Stallions played Clinton was in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, when South Columbus won 33-7.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College’s Workforce and Community Development Division will offer several continuing education classes and seminars in the coming weeks. To pre-register or for more information, call (910) 642-7141, ext. 296, 397 or 425.

Financial assistance with registration fees and books to gain new employment-related skills may be available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other funding sources. To see if they qualify, students should contact the Columbus County JobLink Career Center immediately at (910)642-7141, ext. 261 or by visiting the Center in A-Building on the SCC campus.

Wireless Technology for the Small Business

Wireless Technology for the Small Business will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 6-9 p.m. in T-Building, room 120. This free seminar will explain how to make wireless technology simple to use in small business to maximize profits, reduce expenses, increase productivity, and ensure information security.
