WEATHER: Heavy rainmaking thunderstorms

Grab the umbrella for sure today, as showers and thunderstorms will soak our area into the afternoon.

While severe weather is not likely, some good old fashioned gully washers are - as the atmosphere moistens to a typical summer type scenario.

That means low visibility and some roadway flooding concerns this morning are likely as heavy rain falls in swaths across southeastern North Carolina.

Some rumbles of thunder and gusty conditions are possible, particularly as we head in to the warmer hours this afternoon.

High temps remain a bit cooler today with the added cloud cover.  Look for most spots to near 80F.  Some spots may pull in an inch of precipitation.

WEATHER: Perfect late spring weather

As nice as it was yesterday it will be slightly nicer this afternoon as, for the first time this month, we will move temperatures to above normal for this time of year.

Expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures just above 80F near Wilmington – to the mid 80's for inland locations.

Highs will move into the mid to upper 80s on Friday with mostly sunny skies ahead of a cold front poised to move through on Sunday that will bring showers to our Mother's Day forecast.

WEATHER: Showers and thunderstorms

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will riddle the forecast this morning into the early afternoon as a slow moving low pressure center advances toward the east coast.  Some locations could pick up on a half inch to an inch of rain, while others may just miss the showers all together.

The showers chances will door this afternoon as some dryer and cooler air aloft moves over eastern NC.  Highs will briefly move into the mid 70s as the break in showers moves through.

Tuesday we will have another chance at showers and embedded thunderstorms as the low finally exits the coast.  Mid week will embrace the return of mostly sunny skies and daytime temperatures back into the seasonable upper 70s and low 80s,

WEATHER: As good as it gets

Bingo! Ask me what an ideal spring day should look like in southeastern North Carolina, and I respectfully submit to you April 26, 2013.  Sunny – dry – mild, but not hot.

This is going to be a nice Friday. However, as we move into Saturday, clouds will approach from the west bringing a slight up tick in the rain chances as we go into the evening – then the rain chances pick up as an upper level disturbance moves overhead during the day.

So get it in today - or tomorrow - because that moisture will likely set off showers Sunday through Tuesday with temperatures a bit below normal for this time of year.

WEATHER: Changes tonight and Friday

WEATHER: Changes tonight and Friday

Another very nice day today  with some nice late spring time weather as our highs will run about ten degrees above normal for this time of year.

Look for the afternoon temperature to jump into the low 80s for any location more than five miles or so inland from the beach.  Beaches, with those chilly water temperatures, will remain in the mid 70s this afternoon.

A cold front moves our way bringing more clouds and shower chances for late today into Friday.

The Storm Prediction Center still has us under the slight threat if severe weather a line of thunderstorms is likely to move through late tonight through the commute Friday morning.

Another round (or two) of showers is possible into the early afternoon before the drier and cooler air shows up Friday evening

WEATHER: No friends for the forecaster

Soon, if it doesn't get warmer, I'm going to have a hard time getting outside.  Not because it's so unseasonably cold, although it is.  But rather, because people are fascinated (angry) with how persistently cold it has been through the last two weeks.  "Colin, do you think we will see some spring weather?  I'm ready for warmer conditions."  I ask Meteorologist Eric Davis the same thing every day. j
